NATURAL WOOD

The use of selected and seasoned, diffuse-porous natural wood is a consequence of combining unique aesthetic values with exceptional mechanical properties. The uniqueness of an irreplaceable colour and device of every wood fragment used by us, grain irregularity and its natural texture make every frame, designed and manufactured by the EMKY team, one of a kind.

FRAME MATERIAL

EMKY bicycles are built on EMKY composite frames whose construction nodes: a seat tube, bottom bracket, head tube, and chain and seat stays are welded manually with TIG method, subjected to proper thermal processing to eliminate generated stresses, and sanded manually to smooth the welds.

To produce our frames we only use aluminium alloy 7020-T6. Welding and other EMKY frame treatment operations are performed by highly-qualified specialists with modern equipment.

Aluminium 7020 is 700 series aluminium alloy whose main alloying element is zinc (4-7%), as well as magnesium (2-4%) and copper (0.5-1.7%). In European standards it is designated as EN AW-7020, its chemical determination is AlZn4,5Mg1. The alloy, subjected to proper welding treatment consistent with good welding practices, is used mainly in those welded structures which should be characterised by high resistance.

Compared to aluminium 6061-T6 (AlMg1SiCu), widely used to produce bicycle frames, grade 7020-T6 is characterised by higher fatigue limit and achieves significantly higher values of tensile strength.

Fatigue limit is the highest level of tension which can be applied for a specified number of cycles of material cyclic loading without causing its fatigue damage, and amounts to 130 MPa for aluminium 7020-T6 and 96 MPa for aluminium 6061-T6.

Tensile strength, defined as the maximum value of tensile stress which material can take during a short static tension, exceeding of which causes material damage, determines the value of 310 MPa for aluminium 7020-T6, while for alloy 6061-T6 it amounts to 270 MPa.

PROJECT

All bicycles are constructed based on EMKY frames made in Poland, which combine aluminium, seasoned and formed natural wood and epoxy laminate of fibres of proper weave and weight. Thanks to the compilation of all the materials used and proper selection of technical parameters, they preserve suitable rigidity and low weight while minimizing road unevenness at the same time. The layers which they are covered with protect the frames against corrosion.

OUR VALUES

We are proud to have developed a manufacturing process to integrate into the stream of responsible production, inspiring customers to make conscious purchasing decisions.

By taking responsibility for the developed product in terms of its long-term use, we have carefully designed our bicycles and responsibly put them on sale, in cooperation with trained dealers and service technicians, thus limiting the market share of practically disposable products without adequate service or spare parts. In view of the global overproduction of all kinds of goods leading to excessive resource consumption, the beautiful designs of our models and the handicraft of the EMKY frames would be worth nothing if unrepairable poor quality components were used.

The careful choice of materials which create the EMKY frames, allowing for periodic renovation in line with EMKY technology, the use of high-quality components supplied by global manufacturers that provide users with adequate access to expert service and the ability to replace only single, exploited components will extend the life of the bicycle, which cannot be a product for one season.

All of this is both a condition and a promise that every EMKY bike will be used for years.

QUALITY

Because we believe that the value of a bicycle frame is determined mainly by the right material, carefully designed geometry, well-selected tube sections, and quality of welded joints — we go to every effort to make EMKY frames be the result of all the above factors.

As a responsible manufacturer, we know that, in addition to a precisely developed frame, the quality is also determined by the components we will equip our bicycles with. In EMKY, quality is always a top priority, so we only work with renowned accessory manufacturers such as Shimano, DT Swiss, Continental, Gates Carbon Drive, Brooks England and Knog.

INNOVATIONS

In EMKY, already at the stage of frame geometry design and gear selection, we implement solutions to make our bikes so durable, user-friendly and easy to be serviced for years to come.

One of the solutions used in EMKY bikes is the inner part of the seat tube made of carbon. This solution eliminates the need to cut the seat tube, thus avoiding the risk of the frame breaking in the future around the location of the seatpost clamps. At the same time, there is no risk of damaging the paint coating here, as in our frames the seatpost clamps are mounted directly on an uncoated carbon part of the tube. The inner part of the carbon tube also dampens the vibrations produced when riding, just like the commonly used carbon forks do.

Our bikes are designed for nondemanding, safe, quiet and clean utilization. It is guaranteed by the factory adjustment of the frames to be used with the drive based on the Internally Geared Hub and the Gates Carbon Drive belt, whose maintenance is limited to washing the surface dirt, which will build up in everyday use, with water only. By equipping our frames with sliding and opening dropouts, designed in EMKY and made in CNC technology, we can maintain clean and minimalist aesthetics in the belt drive frame, as well as the intact design of the chainstays and seatstays.

LOCAL PRODUCTION

As a manufactory, we perform most production processes locally, so we have full control over the entire manufacturing process, both in terms of quality of workmanship and compliance with applicable standards.

Processes executed locally:

– the design of the bicycle and its carbon elements,

– production and processing of aluminum frames and carbon elements,karbonowych,

– natural wood processing (originating only from local FSC certified suppliers),

– frame coating,

– complete wheel assembly,

– final assembly of the complete bicycle.
